The COMISSIONING Process

Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Select one of the options above or use the contact inquiry form below to start the conversation about what you want for a custom piece.

  2. We chat a bit over email or phone to make sure I understand how I can best deliver to your wants and needs. You can be as detailed or as vague as you like at this point! I’ll only ask the questions I need to get started. We go over any expectations or limitations. I will let you know a price and timeline estimate to make sure we are aligned before either of us commit to the process. For elaborate works with new clients, a deposit may be required.

  3. Once I know my direction, I send 2-4 thumbnails and you pick the one you like most to pursue. (thumbnails may not apply for smaller pieces such as bust artwork)

  4. I work on the sketch and send you a .jpeg of the first draft/sketch of pencils. You let me know any concerns or light revisions and I edit them in the sketch and send the sketch back. With your approval, I start on the final piece!

  5. After finishing the final piece, I send you your piece in its final form! Whether that’s a physical watercolor mailed to your door or a high-resolution .pdf file if you chose a digital commission.

Q&A

Q: How long does the process take?

It depends on the complexity of your request. A digital portrait can take a total of 3 business days for thumb-nailing and 3 business days for completion. If you have specific timelines to meet, please don’t hesitate to let me know! I will always try to accommodate if possible. Expediated (example: 3 days for the entire process of a complicated piece) may incur an additional cost.

Q: What’s the difference between a digital and physical commission?

A physical commission is painted or drawn directly on the paper and then mailed to you. It is the only version of itself in its truest form and can feel very special and prized because of that. A digital commission is a high-resolution image that is delivered to your email inbox, and kept at a high enough quality for you to print it out yourself. Digital commissions are cheaper because they require incur no cost of materials or shipping. They can also explore a greater variety of styles and colors versus traditional.

Q: Can I ask for fan art?

Sure!

Q: Can you work on my comic?

Depends on the length and commitment required. That said, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’ve worked on numerous guest comic pages and my own projects.

Q: Can I use my commission for commercial avenues? (advertisements, selling products)

Sure! Just note that commercial artwork is subject to licensing or a higher cost. All things we can work out in our initial conversation.

Q: I’m afraid my request is too complicated.

Don’t worry! I love complicated! Just know that more complex works can require more time or compensation. However, that is something I always let you know at the beginning of the project to make sure you are okay with that.

Q: What if I have revisions after the final piece?

I am more than happy to make them! Just note if there are any significant revisions requiring more than an hour of work, I will let you know the time and cost estimate and wait to know if you would like to proceed or not.
